Mavericks Acquire Nerlens Noel in Trade

Long-Awaited Move Finalized

Noel's Buyout Opens Door to Dallas Deal

The Dallas Mavericks have finally acquired center Nerlens Noel in a trade with the Detroit Pistons. The move comes five months after Noel began publicly expressing his displeasure with his role in Detroit.

Noel agreed to a contract buyout with the Pistons on Monday, clearing the way for his move to Dallas. The 28-year-old had been the subject of trade rumors for weeks, but the Pistons were reportedly holding out for a significant return.

Noel's most significant offensive contribution in his 22 games with Dallas came in the area of rebounding. He averaged 9.8 rebounds per game, which would have ranked third on the Mavericks last season.

Noel's defense is also a major asset for Dallas. He is a physical presence in the paint and a strong shot-blocker. He averaged 2.3 blocks per game last season.

Noel's acquisition gives the Mavericks a much-needed boost in the frontcourt. Kristaps Porzingis remains out indefinitely with a knee injury, and Noel will provide a solid presence alongside Dwight Powell.

The trade also marks a reunion between Noel and Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. Kidd was an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks when Noel was drafted in 2013.

Noel is expected to make his Mavericks debut on Wednesday when Dallas hosts the New York Knicks.
