Nerlens Noel Draft Trade

Detroit Pistons Acquire Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel from New York Knicks

Knicks Clear $19 Million in Salary Cap Space, Pistons Bolster Frontcourt Rotation

July 11, 2022

The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons have agreed on a trade that sends Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel to Detroit in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2026 second-round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Burks, 30, is a veteran guard who has emerged as one of the NBA's better off-the-bench scorers in recent years. He averaged 11.7 points per game last season for the Knicks, shooting 40.4% from the field and 38.6% from three-point range.

Noel, 28, is a former top-10 pick who has developed into a solid defensive presence in the paint. He averaged 3.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Knicks last season, while shooting 61.8% from the field.

The trade allows the Knicks to clear some salary cap space and make a run at bigger names in free agency. They are reportedly interested in signing Jalen Brunson, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

For the Pistons, the trade adds two experienced players to their frontcourt rotation. Burks will provide them with some much-needed scoring off the bench, while Noel will give them a solid option as a backup center.
